5 Highlights Preparedness and response actions
Malaria Malaria accounted for 49% and 35% of consultations in nonconflict-affected and IDP areas Malaria cases in five states [Western Lakes, Eastern Lakes, Aweil, Aweil East, and Lol] exceeded expected levels in the week. A total of 32 (40%) counties countrywide have registered increasing and/or more than expected levels of malaria cases Malaria accounted for 58% of mortality in the non conflict affected areas and 11% deaths in the IDPs

9 Cholera Cholera confirmed in six states [Jubek, Terekeka, Jonglei, Imatong, Eastern Lakes; and Western Bieh states]. Active transmission is currently restricted to Eastern Lakes and Western Bieh states. Cumulatively, 2,450 cholera cases including 37 deaths (23 facilities and 14 community) (CFR 1.51%) have been reported in South Sudan Cumulatively 89 (42%) of the samples tested positive for Vibrio Cholerae in the NPHL National and state level cholera taskforce committees are coordinating preparedness and response activities RRT mission to Ayod planned

11 Measles A total of11 new measles cases were reported in from Mayom (4 cases) and Abyei (7 cases) in week 38 of 2016 New measles outbreaks confirmed in: Abyei - 15 of 23 samples were confirmed as measles IgM positive Gogrial West - 5 of 10 samples tested measles IgM positive Plans for reactive measles vaccination in Abyei slated for 6 Oct 2016 Investigation report has been finalized by state RRT to inform response planning for Gogrial West Since the beginning of 2016, a total of 1,683 measles cases including at least 19 deaths (CFR 1.13%) have been reported countrywide

Submission of IDSR reports - IDP and nonconflict areas [support to the CHDs to submit weekly IDSR reports] Cholera Partners mobilized for the community and WASH response in Fangak RRT mission planned for Ayod Suspect cases being investigated in Leer - MSF-H and UNIDO (suspect cases reported in Bentiu Town) Response ongoing in the other affected areas Malaria response Malaria taskforce meetings ongoing Improving access to timely initiation of treatment: static and mobile clinics; ICCM Monitor and report ACT stock levels at HF level on weekly basis - support the CHDs to monitor ACT stocks to prevent stock-outs Vector control - LLINs and BCC Response to malaria and malnutrition in greater Northern Bahr el Ghazal ongoing - WHO prepositioned additional ACTs in 7 hubs - Awerial, Kuajok, Wau, Torit, Yambio, Rumbek, and Bor Gogrial West measles investigation report awaited to inform response planning Enhance Kala azar response in endemic locations - MoH with support from partners - WHO, IMA, MSF, and HC partners - training; restocking diagnostics & medicines; trends
