1 Forces

2 Forces video

3 Balanced If the forces on an object are balanced (or if there are no forces acting on it) this is what happens: an object that is not moving stays still an object that is moving continues to move at the same speed and in the same direction

4 Balanced force

5 Unbalanced force If the forces are unbalanced, there is more force moving in one direction.

6 Unbalanced forces

7 Gravity

8 Mass and weight mass is measured in kilograms, kg,
weight is measured in newtons, N.

9 Weight and mass on the moon.

10 Friction Whenever an object moves against another object, it feels frictional forces. These forces act in the opposite direction to the movement. Friction makes it harder for things to move. Friction can be useful: friction between our shoes and the floor stop us from slipping friction between tyres and the road stop cars from skidding Frictional forces are much smaller on smooth surfaces than on rough surfaces, which is why we slide on ice.

11 Air resistance Bikes, cars and other vehicles experience air resistance as they move. Air resistance is caused by the frictional forces of the air against the vehicle. The faster the vehicle moves, the bigger the air resistance becomes. The top speed of a vehicle is reached when the force from the cyclist or engine is balanced by air resistance.

12 Before we start our experiment we need to…..
Introduction: what is your experiment about? Equipment: what do you need for your experiment? Method: how are you going to do it? Prediction: what do you think is going to happen within your testing? Pictures of experiment

13 Introduction How are you going to carry out your test?
What force are you testing for? What specifically are you testing about this force? How do you know that you are testing this force?

14 Equipment What equipment will you need to test?
What equipment will you need to ensure a fair test? How much of each pieces of equipment will you need?

15 Method How are you going to carry out your test?
What are the steps that you are taking within your testing? What preparation do you need to do? What do you need to do within your testing? What is your variable that you will be changing?

16 Prediction What is going to happen within your test?
Are you going to see a change within your results?

17 Results How are you going to present your results? Table Graph
Bar chart What do your results tell you?

18 Conclusion What was successful within your testing? What went well?
What didn’t go very well? What would you change for next time?
