E.g. What are the exams like in French?
How did you get on? Last lesson you were asked to find out answers to three questions you had about the pathways process and subject choices. Instead of saying you are here during the register, say one thing you have found out over the last 2 weeks. E.g. Which subjects are good for people who want to join the public services such as the police? E.g. How much time will I need to spend on controlled assessments in Resistant Materials? E.g. What are the exams like in French? Last lesson students were asked to write 3 questions about pathways or subject choices that they wanted to find out. Take feedback on this – instead of saying they are here during the register ask them to tell you one thing they have found out over the last two weeks. Check whether students have any other pathways questions before moving on.

Careers Learning Objective: To begin exploring options for life after Wildern. I can explore my options when I leave school. I can give examples of the training involved in different job roles. I can prepare for my U-Explore Lesson.

What are my options? You are expected to stay in education until you are 18 years old. When you leave Wildern at 16 there are a range of options available to you… Subjects A levels and other subject-based qualifications like International Baccalaureate (IB) and Cambridge Pre-U. These are good if there are subjects you like and want to study further, or if you are planning to go to university. You normally need to have at least five GCSEs at grades A* to C (or an equivalent qualification) and may need at least a grade B in any specific subjects you want to study. Work and Job Related Courses: NVQs, BTECs, TechBacs and Cambridge Technicals are good qualifications to take if you want to combine hands on, practical learning with studying subjects and technical skills. They are specialist courses which relate to particular jobs, sectors, or subject areas. Depending on what qualifications you take, you can go on to further education, training, or employment, or you can go to university. Explain the different options that students have after leaving Wildern at 16. Make sure students know there are a range of options available to them. Show the clip You can also choose to train while you work by taking on an apprenticeship, traineeship or supported internship.  For example: Apprenticeship: You work for an employer and train to do a specific job at the same time. There are over 280 types of apprenticeship for over 1,500 job roles – anything from engineering to boat-building, or veterinary nursing to accountancy.

What are my options? Imagine someone has asked you what options there are after leaving Wildern at 16. What would you say to them? Before moving on get students to review their learning and ask them to imagine someone has asked them what options there are after leaving Wildern – what would they say to them?
