4 Context Partnership Arrangement signed between ITER Organization and the Principality of Monaco in January 2008 euros/year to finance 5 post doctoral fellows every 2 years euros/year to finance an event to promote fusion and ITER Until now we have not spent any money on this line; Monaco has agreed that we could cumulate the amount of 3 years 2008, 2009 and 2010 For the organization of an event on fusion, ITER Organization has asked IAEA to join, because of its experience and also because it has a location in Monaco MIFED 1 will be organized Nov = 2,5 day event Chairmen: IC Chair, MAC Chair, STAC Chair

5 D1: Fusion and the Broader Energy Context
23 November 2010 This day should be the main focus of the conference The focus of this first day will be: global energy context, energy policies of the ITER members states, how fusion fits in. Welcome and opening by Monaco, IO DG and IAEA Delegate HSH Prince Albert II keynote Speech EU Keynote (EU Commissioner), Host Party France Keynote (French Minister), Host Country 15 minutes speech (including a one-minute video trailer) for each Member on their energy policy Round table and discussions on future energy

6 Speakers Letter to CP’s sent in which we ask them to advise us on the possible guests. We expect to get “big names” such as : EU : M. Geoghegan-Quinn (Research and Innovation), Günther Oettinger (Energy), Connie Hedegaard (Climate Action), Janez Potočnik (Environment); FR : Jean-Louis Borloo (Ecologie, Energie, Developpement Durable, Mer), Valérie Pécresse (Enseignement supérieur, Recherche), Christian Estrosi (Economie, Industrie, Emploi), Pierre Lellouche (affaires Européennes); CN: CAO Jianlin, (Head of CN delegation ITER Council, Vice-Minister of Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST); IN: Dr. Srikumar Banerjee (Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy); JA: Yasutaka Moriguchi (Head of JA delegation ITER Council, Deputy Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT); KO: Jung Hyun Kim (Head of KO delegation ITER Council, Vice Minister, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST); RF: Igor Borovkov (Head of RF delegation ITER Council), Evgeny Velikhov (Council chair); US: Steven Chu (Secretary of Energy).

7 Participants Public expected: Monaco delegation, 7 Members Delegations, IO Senior Management, IAEA, Press, Companies, Local bodies (regional financers), CEA representatives, Scientists, Students (Monaco Post-docs plus one student by Member) participants the session will be managed by an external moderator : a journalist is to be selected Outside the session and after the cocktail offered by the Principality, Neil Young will make a speech on the Energy projects he is funding in the US ( and might play music)

8 Day 2 –The ITER Baseline (24 November 2010)
More ITER project oriented; a large participation of industries is expected Welcome and Introduction to the baseline by IO DG. Presentation of ITER technical Challenges Procurement strategies: Examples Unallocated procurement packages How to work with and at ITER (labor, safety/security rules, … 500 participants Day 3 –Technology and Materials for ITER ITER- IAEA Technical Meeting: (100 participants) The final day of the Conference being more technical, the programme will be defined by FST in close cooperation with the IAEA. IAEA contribution to the Conference might therefore be requested by the IO in terms of logistics support or financially. 100 participants
