2. What is the Roman Forum?
It was the center of political and social activity in Rome.
Used as the marketplace, business district, and the civic center
The Forum included temples, a Senate House, and law courts.
It has been considered the most celebrated meeting place in the world and all of history

3. Arch of Titus The Arch was built in honor of the emperor Titus
Titus plundered the Great Jewish temple in Jerusalem
The sculptures on the arch show the treasures of the Jews
It is on the opposite end of the Arch of Septimus Severus

5. Arch of Septimus Severus
Displays images of Septimus’ victories in Iraq and Iran during the 3rd century
Also honors his two sons: Caracalla and Geta who fought along side him during the war
The arch is located at the end of the Forum

7. Temple of Saturn Was a monument to the agricultural god; Saturn
Served as the public treasury
Used as a repository for the decrees made by the Senate
It is located at the foot of the Capitoline Hill in the western end of the Roman Forum

It is the oldest temple in the forum. It was built during the period of the of the kings in Rome.

9. Basilica of Maxentius
It was the last structure built in Rome showing the magnificence of the city
Used as Rome’s public law courts
This basilica inspired the plans for St. Peter’s basilica in the Vatican
Basilica = an oblong building ending in a semi-circular apse used in Ancient Rome especially for a court of justice and place of public assembly

10. Basilica of Maxentius
It is located in the heart of Ancient Rome. It was the largest building in the Forum.

11. Temple of Antoninus & Faustina
It is the best preserved building in the Forum
The emperor, Antoninus Pius, lost his wife, Faustina, in honor of her he built a glorious temple
During the Middle Ages, the temple became the church of “San Lorenzo in Miranda”

The temple was located on the north side of the Sacra via at the entrance to the forum, just east of the Basilica Aemilia.

The largest brick building that still has a roof in the Forum
Used as the Roman Senate building
The building was believed to be constructed by Tullus Hostilius

It is located at the foot of the Capitoline Hill, near the Comitium.

15. Regia A shrine considered to be the home of the king
It later became the office of the high priest in the Roman religion
It was located between the Temple of Vesta, the Temple of Divus Julius and Temple of Antoninus and Faustina in the Forum Romanum

It was originally the residence of the Roman Kings.

Near the spring of Juturna, where the heroes were reportedly seen watering their horses after helping the Romans at the Battle of Lake Regillus

Imperial cult temple commemorating the emperors, Vesapasian and Titus, located to the South of Temple of Concord and to the west of the Temple of Saturn
