‘Form’ and ‘line’ materials are selected and used in order to emphasise contrasts.
Positive and negative space are essential.
It is rare for the overall design to have a solid outline shape as the major focus is placed on the character of individual parts and their relationships within a design.

6. Characteristics
Focus is on the silhouette of lines, flowers, leaves, branches etc
Lighter floral materials are placed at top of the design
Heavy floral materials placed at the base of the design
Pointed shaped materials to the outside of the design
Rounded shaped materials to the inside of the design

7. Arrangement Every line is important Every silhouette has its place
There must be varying space within the design
The design tends to use a limited choice of material
These designs tend to look more contemporary or modern in style

8. Floral impact
Flowers within this design tend to follow a strict hierarchy
All flowers, leaves etc are shown at their full stem length
There is little, if any, manipulation of plant material of any kind
