1 From: Metacontrast masking within and between visual channels: Effects of orientation and spatial frequency contrasts Journal of Vision. 2010;10(6):12. doi: / Figure Legend: (a–e) Averaged masking data and fitted masking functions. Each plot contains the masking functions for one spatial frequency (the target's spatial frequency f T is always equal to the mask's spatial frequency f M ) with four different orientation contrasts (0°—green line; 30°—light green line; 60°—light red line; 90°—red line). The black symbols mark the minimum of the fitted masking functions. In this figure, they serve only illustrative purposes, since for statistical analyses the functions were fitted to the subjects individual data and not, as shown here, to the averaged data. (f) The mean unstandardized ratings of target visibility obtained for presentations of targets and masks only.
