1 Drug Policy By Quinn Cassidy

2 Definition A drug policy is the policy, usually of a government, regarding the control and regulation of drugs considered dangerous, particularly those which are addictive.

3 Resolution We are going to talk about Drug Policy in America because it is the only place which this is important because we live here and it affects us the most.

4 How America Stops Drug Use
Penalties for simple possession range from a fine of less than $100 and/or a few days in jail to thousands of dollars and several years in state prison for the same offense. Simple drug possession sentences tend to be the lightest, while intent to distribute drugs or the cultivation/manufacturing of drugs carry much heavier penalties.

5 INtroduction to Pros and cons
We live in a world where you either do something or you don't, and a majority of citizens might not use drugs and some people might, so here are some pros and cons on this subject.

6 cons of drug policies 1.If we legalizing drugs we will make an tax income off it. legalizing drugs would save the government approximately $41.3 billion annually on expenditures related to the enforcement of prohibition. About $8.7 billion would result from the legalization of marijuana alone and Miron and Waldock estimate that of that $41.3 billion in savings and $32.6 billion from the legalization of other drugs, like cocaine and heroin and $25.7 billion would accrue to state and local governments allowing states like ours put more money into the education programs. 2. If we legalized drugs it can help states that are in a budget shortfall. Indeed, the potential financial gains to be realized through the legalization of drugs would be of particular interest to the state of California, which not only teems with thousands of (illegal) marijuana growers, but whose state government also faces a budget shortfall of nearly $20-billion for fiscal 2011.

7 Pros of drug policies If we legalize drugs it will worsen many people's mental and physical health. If we legalize drugs we will be making very easy for the American population to obtain and misuse these drugs and become a danger to public safety. 2. It will increase crime rates. Because with the drug cartels in mexico supplying around 60 percent of all marijuana dealt to America its drug wars have also spilled into American soils and when we legalize drugs many drug cartels will grow because they don't have to worry about being caught dealing or moving drugs thus causing more conflict with gangs over drugs and more dangerous to normal citizens caught in the middle of these fights.
