Marinescu 38, Romania  OBJECTIVES MATERIAL AND METHODS Traditional ethnomedicinal knowledge about plant use can be attributed to the archaic folklore system in Romania. Several surveys are being performed nowadays, focusing on the study of new plant taxa. Based on comparison with previous reports (Spilková et al. 1982, 2001), field restharrow (Ononis arvensis L., Fabaceae) was selected in our field work in Homoród-valley for further studies. We have collected ethnobotanical data in 5 villages of Homoród-valley (Crăciunel, Mărtiniș, Merești, Petreni, Sânpaul) in summer of The herb of Ononis arvensis (Ononidis arvensis herba) was mentioned for diarrhoea, liver and stomach disorders as tea. The aerial parts of the species was collected at hayfield in Petreni in July Polyphenolic compounds were studied by Q-TOF LC/MS with ESI ion source. MS detection was performed on Ascentis Express C18 column. The aglycone content was determined based on the monography of Crataegi folium cum florae, the total flavonoids according to Cynarae folium (Farmacopeea Română 1993). LOD and LOQ results for polyphenolic standards Plant collection in field trip Ononis arvensis L. RESULTS Eighteen polyphenolic compounds were identified and quantified in the aerial parts of O. arvensis (Table 1). The dominant polyphenolic compound was eriodictiol. Phenolic acids (gallic acid, ferulic acid, caffeic acid, ellagic acid and their derivatives, chlorogenic acid, p-coumaric acid) were also detected, as well as flavanones (naringenin, eriodictyol, dihydroquercetin), flavones (apigenin, luteolin), flavonols (quercetin, kaempherol, rutin), flavan-3-ols (catechin, epicatechin), a stilbenoid (trans-resveratrol), a dihydrochalcon (phloridzin), and a stilbenoid glucoside (piceid). The aglycone content was %, total flavonoid content g cm-3. CONCLUSIONS REFERENCES These preliminary results will be completed by other analytical methods of the substances of O. arvensis which can give new phytochemical data about the species.
