3 ) 25 5 9 7 Look at the divisor (number outside)
Look at the dividend (number inside) Look at each digit in the dividend until you find one that the divisor can go into. Put a sticky note behind the first number 5 so you only see 5. You must ask yourself if 25 can go into 5. ) 25 5 9 7 NO, 5 is too small

4 ) 25 5 9 7 Move the sticky note over to the next number.
Then ask if 25 can go into 59. ) 25 5 9 7 yes Using multiplication-you multiply the divisor (25) by a number to get close to 59 but not over. (Think of 25 and 50-they are compatible numbers.) 25 x 2 50

5 2 Write the number you multiplied by (2) over the last number in front of the sticky note. Write the answer (50) under 59. ) 25 5 9 7 50 9 Subtract 59-50= 9 25 x 2 50

6 2 Slide the sticky note over until you see the next number: 7. Bring it down. ) 25 5 9 7 50 9 7 Now you have 97. Find out how many times 25 will go into 97. Multiply numbers by 25 until you find an answer that is close to 97 but not over. 25 x4 100 too big Hint: Think of 97 being close to 100 (25 x4=100).

7 ) 2 3 r 22 25 5 9 7 50 9 7 75 2 2 The number you are looking for is 3.
Write the answer to the multiplication problem 25x3=75 under 97. Write the 3 over the 7. Subtract. Check to see if there is another number to bring down. If not, check the final answer 22. It must be smaller than the divisor (25). The remainder is 22. 2 3 r 22 ) 25 5 9 7 50 9 7 75 25 x3 75 2 2 25 x4 100

8 √ your work!!!! Multiply the divisor by the quotient. 1 1 25 Add the remainder. 23 575 7 5 22 5 5 9 7 5 7 5 This is your original dividend.
