1 CONCLUDING REMARKS During this ws: discussion of the 2009 experimental program after a first analysis of the proposals by the TFLs 134 proposals, equally distributed among the TFs. Most of them submitted last week, very short time for TFLs. proposals from 8 external institutions: work to be done on RFX-mod proposed by external scientists important contributions to this ws from other RFPs (MST, T2-R) and from the Tokamak community, but interactions also with the Stellarator world

2 Many open questions. Among them:
RWMs and Greenwald limit as fields where RFPs can contribute to the tokamak physics Active control of tearing modes: the problem of the current limit for the active coil power supplies, possible optimisation of the CMC scheme, correction of the error fields, predictive modelling of the control (Piovesan/Soppelsa). Perspectives for the QSH regimes: is S the ruling parameter? (Escande, Zuin)? The problem of characterizing particle and energy transport inside the island (Gobbin, Auriemma). New regimes require new codes to characterize transport and turbulence. Progress in an helical equilibrium code for RFX-mod (Marrelli) Turbulence and momentum transport studies. The open question of the flow profile experimental evaluation

3 Towards the highest currents...
Further optimization of horizontal equilibrium and error field control (Cavazzana, Zanotto) Lithization as a new tool to control density and operate with low recycling (Alfier). Li pellet injection and collaboration with Frascati for a LLL (Mazzitelli). The issue of plasma fuelling The high current operation: at what density? Possibility to fuel the island by pellets (Auriemma). Is the OPCD still attractive for RFX-mod or the spontaneously developing QSH and SHAxs make this kind of experiments less appealing? Interesting possibilities related to the possible operation of RFX-mod as a RFP, ulq and Tokamak configuration. Collaborations with RFPs: density limit & pellet injection, QSH and SHAx regimes, neutral penetration, mode control…

4 What happens now? The 2009 operation of RFX-mod is going to start on next Tuesday Feb 2nd, with 2 weeks of commissioning This implies a high pressure to TFLs to prepare the experimental program of the first weeks. A meeting is already scheduled for next Monday. The outcome of this ws (‘hot items’, interest induced by the various topics, emerging problems) will be greatly taken into account when building the program, together with other criteria, such as machine and diagnostic pre-requirements, need for wall conditioning procedures, support to external proposals, conferences… The idea is to define a program for about 8-10 weeks (including commissioning), to be presented to the group during one of the next Tuesday meetings.

5 Thank you to everybody attending the meeting Special thanks to
Margherita, Alessandro, Federica, Enrico, Paolo, Elisa
