1 Writing and Introduction Paragraph
Introducing your reader to the topic you are writing about!

2 WHAT IS AN INTRODUCTION PARAGRAPH
When you begin reading a book, story, article, or any other piece of writing, the beginning lets the reader know what the rest of the writing will be about. Today, we will practice creating our own introduction paragraphs.

3 COMPONENTS OF A STRONG INTRODUCTION SENTENCE
A strong lead Small examples of evidence you will use. A thesis statement

4 Part 1 Part 1: Lead Just like we have practiced before, a good lead grabs the readers attention. We can do this in a few different ways. Asking a question Making a statement Telling a small story Using an opposite statement Telling a small joke

5 Different examples of strong leads
Statement: Sneakers are the best shoes that a person can wear. Question: Are you tired of your feet hurting inside of your uncomfortable shoes? Story: The other day, I was walking with my friends when suddenly, my feet began cramping. Opposite Statement: Some people say that sneakers are not that comfortable.

6 Part 2 Next, we add three simple examples that we are going to use as evidence to help us prove our point. Remember, we are not giving specific examples! We are simply giving small examples that we will explain later on. Example: Sneakers are great because they are comfortable, they lace up, and they have holes in them to allow more air to get to your feet.

7 Part 3 Last, we have our thesis statement
The thesis is like a topic sentence. It clearly explains to the reader what they will be reading about in this paper. Example: Everyone should be wearing sneakers every day.

8 TO SUMMARIZE Are you tired of your feet hurting you everyday (LEAD)? Sneakers are great because they are comfortable, they lace up, and they have holes in them to allow more air to get to your feet (EXAMPLES). Everyone should be wearing sneakers every day (THESIS).
