1 Bachelor of Engineering Technology (HONS) in Medical Electronics,
Hazwani Azhar Bachelor of Engineering Technology (HONS) in Medical Electronics, Universiti Kuala Lumpur British Malaysian Institute, Batu 8, Jalan Sungai Pusu, Gombak, Selangor Tel: 1. To design LOW COST PORTABLE wireless EMG control system for general purpose human-machine interaction 2. To develop a PROTOYPE wireless arm switch EMG control system using Miniaturized wheelchair model 3. To PROMOTE this PROPOSED model in rehabilitation aids application as good assistive technique for those suffering from extremely limited peripheral mobility. In this armamentarium of wireless medical telemetry, advanced technologies facilitate the design of novel biofeedback for task-oriented biofeedback rehabilitation purposes by possessing diverse parameter and control application. As for these advancements, by developing a controller that uses muscle action to control the devices or gadgets, disabled people’s routine activities would be ease. Electromyogram (EMG) wireless-controlled devices are being explored for controlling the functioning of the rehabilitation devices. The proposed control system was tested using a miniaturized wheelchair model and it eliminates the presently implemented complex wired control system. In consequence, the full hands-free operation with minimal need for assistance can be implemented. With the wireless EMG control aid, these users can maneuver themselves independently to do their routine activities. The present study delineates the development of a wireless EMG control system conducted in separated parts. First, it deals with development of basic wireless EMG based control system and secondly it deals with the development of miniaturized wheelchair model. The developed control system may also be used for operating other rehabilitation aids (e.g. robotic arm) and as a playful rehabilitation tools as self-initiated training application. EMG and control application system has been designed and implemented. A new algorithm for EMG and signal classification for control signal generation was also developed. This system is used to generate the control signal with different hand movement. These generated control signals are used to control the wheelchair model corresponding to hand movement. Development of EMG based control system for assistive device will be a good assistive technique for people suffering from extremely limited peripheral mobility. From the application point of view generated control signal can also be used to control the other rehabilitative devices. D.
