Brown Bag Seminars Hosted by the School of Urban & Environmental Engineering The State-of-the-Art Researches on Structural Dynamics and Smart Structures Technology Speaker : Prof. Chung Bang Yun School of Urban & Environmental Engineering, UNIST Abstract Large civil engineering structures, such as buildings, bridges, power plants, dams, and plant facilities, are continuously subjected to dynamic loads, which may cause structural deterioration and damage during their long service lives of about 100 years. As structural engineers, we are responsible to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain those structures so that we can assure the functionally effectiveness and structurally safety of them, which are very vital to the people’s daily lives and the industrial and business activities. Recently smart structures technologies have been emerging as effective technologies to assure the safety and functionality of those structures and industrial facilities. This lecture covers the state-of-the-art researches on structural dynamics and smart structures technology. More specifically the following topics are discussed: 1. Dynamic Analysis of Structures against Wind, Waves and Earthquake Loads, Smart and Green Materials, 2. Smart Sensing, Monitoring, and Diagnosis, and 3. Response Modification and Structural Control. Time : 12 pm, March 21, 2012(Wed) Location : E204 EB1 Contact : Prof. Jae Hong Kim (Ext. 2817) Please RSVP by two days before the seminar to Ms. Youn Young Hwang (Ext. 2802, ) for free lunch !!
