1 Are You a Disciple? Mark 6:7-14

2 Mar 6:1 And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him. 2 And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing [him] were astonished, saying, From whence hath this [man] these things? and what wisdom [is] this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands? 3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. 4 But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. 5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed [them]. 6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching. 7 And he called [unto him] the twelve,

6 Key Point #1 : A true disciple of Christ is unique in their relationship to Christ and their devotion to his work

7 The call is a Partnership
7 And he called [unto him] the twelve,and began to send them forth by two and two;

8 The call is a Partnership
7 And he called [unto him] the twelve,and began to send them forth by two and two; Ministry Requires Unity – Mat 18:19-22

9 Ministry Requires Unity - he wants leaders who are establishing bonds in ministry
Mat 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. 21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? 22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

10 The call is a Partnership
7 And he called [unto him] the twelve,and began to send them forth by two and two; Ministry Requires Unity – Mat 18:19-22 Ministry Requires Accountability – Prov 27:17

11 Ministry Requires Accountability - he wants leaders that challenge and encourage one another.
Pro 27:17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. Isa 35:3 Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. 4 Say to them [that are] of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come [with] vengeance, [even] God [with] a recompence; he will come and save you. Heb 10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

12 The call is a Partnership
7 And he called [unto him] the twelve,and began to send them forth by two and two; Ministry Requires Unity – Mat 18:19-22 Ministry Requires Accountability – Prov 27:17 Ministry Requires Discipleship – Acts 16:1-5

13 Ministry Requires Discipleship - he wants leaders that train one another.
Act 16:1 Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father [was] a Greek: 2 Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium. 3 Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek. 4 And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem. 5 And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.

14 Key Point #2 : Ministry is the partnership of disciples going in faith.

15 The calling comes with Power
Act 1:7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

16 Key Point #3 : Power is always given by God to do things that would otherwise be impossible

17 Mat 17:15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. 16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. 17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me. 18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. 19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? 20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. 21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

18 Key Point #4 : God’s power over the impossible is tapped by faith and request

19 The calling demands Preparation
8 And commanded them that they should take nothing for [their] journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in [their] purse: 9 But [be] shod with sandals; and not put on two coats.

20 Key Point #5: Our limitations demand faith and reliance
The calling demands Preparation What not to take: No Scrip No Bread No Money Don’t put on two coats. Key Point #5: Our limitations demand faith and reliance

21 The calling demands Preparation
What to take: Staff (Word of God) Psa 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou [art] with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

22 The calling demands Preparation
What to take: Staff (Word of God) Psa 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou [art] with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Shod feet (a ready messenger) Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

23 The calling demands Preparation
What to take: Staff (Word of God) Psa 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou [art] with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Shod feet (a ready messenger) Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

24 Key Point #6 : A prepared disciple is dependent on God’s Word and is going out to deliver it.

25 The calling requires a Plan
10 And he said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an house, there abide till ye depart from that place. 11 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

26 Key Point #7 : A disciple makes time for faithful men and women, not unfaithful men and women

27 The calling requires a Purpose
10 And he said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an house, there abide till ye depart from that place. 11 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

28 Key Point #7 : A disciple preaches repentance
