For Today: Warm Up Pedigree Posters
Objective: I can explain how genes work in a family using a pedigree.
8
PEDIGREE POSTERS Each partner group will get information on a different genetic trait, you only need to choose one! Make a pedigree poster based off of that information Need to include: Roman numerals, Arabic numbers (1,2,3,4, etc), names (if part of pedigree), key with symbols We will gallery walk poster presentations on Wednesday!
9
Example Pedigree: I 1 2 3 4 II 3 1 2 III 1 2 3 4 SS SS ss Ss KEY
unaffected SS III unaffected Carlos ss 1 2 3 4 Ss
10
Finish up your Pedigree Posters-15 minutes
Make sure you include: Name and description of Condition (on fact sheet- MAKE SURE TO SAY WHICH IS DOMINANT AND WHICH IS RECESSIVE!) Roman numerals for each generation(I, II, III, IV, V, etc) Arabic numbers for each individual in the generation(1,2,3,4, etc) Names (if part of pedigree) Key with symbols- ADD GENOTYPES NEXT TO KEY!
11
Gallery Walk I have created pedigree stations for all the genetic diseases Please find the similar pedigree that you did, and hang up your pedigree next to it You and your partner will be going around to each station, and observing the pedigrees you see At each station, please write 3 sticky notes about the pedigrees: “I like…” (Things you like about one pedigree or all the pedigrees- Use green/purple sticky notes) “I wonder…” (Something you wonder about the pedigree. This could be about future generations, where the disease started, etc. Use pink/yellow sticky notes) “One thing you could improve on for next time…” (One thing that one or all of the pedigrees could work on for next time. BE NICE! Use orange/blue sticky notes) GET LOTS OF DIFFERENT COLORED POST IT NOTES!

If you were to teach someone how to draw a pedigree, what steps would you tell them to do? What information do they need to know? List out your steps and be specific!
