REMEMBERING/UNDERSTANDING Learning Objective: To know about graffiti. SMSC: Cultural To learn about graffiti. There are many different types of graffiti. These are some examples. Research different types of graffiti. Find pictures showing the work of graffiti artists: Moose and Blu. Find pictures showing examples of: 3d graffiti, yarn bombing, animated graffiti and light graffiti. Present your pictures on A4 paper. What words to describe the pictures? Write them on your paper. Which types of graffiti do you like? Say why?

REMEMBERING/UNDERSTANDING Learning Objective: To know about graffiti. SMSC: Cultural To learn about graffiti. Banksy is a graffiti artist. He uses a card stencil and spray paint to do his graffiti. He does stencilling because it is quicker to do. Banksy does his graffiti on public walls and buildings. Banksy uses graffiti to get a serious message across. The message is usually against war, rich people or the government. His graffiti shows rats, monkeys, policemen, soldiers, children, and old people. Banksy’s work is now worth a lot of money and people collect it. A graffiti war started between Banksy and King Robbo  when Banksy painted over one of Robbo's tags. Answer the questions: How does Banksy do his work? What does he use? 2. What is Banksy trying to do with his graffiti? 3. Why is Banksy no longer being prosecuted for doing graffiti? 4. What is the feud between Banksy and King Robbo about?

He became involved with graffiti during the 1980s. His work are ‘visual puns’ that sometimes have a written slogan. A visual pun is a type of joke that uses pictures to get the joke across. Banksy’s jokes often have a serious message behind them. The message is usually against war, rich people, bad behaviour or the government. His work often shows rats, apes, policemen, soldiers, children and old people. He uses a card stencil and spray paint to do his graffiti. He does stencilling because it is quicker to do. He started stencilling when he was hiding from the police under a rubbish lorry and noticed the stencilled serial number on the lorry. Banksy does his graffiti on public walls and buildings. He began doing graffiti in Bristol, then London and now travels across the world. He became interested in graffiti as a child when he saw pictures of New York subway graffiti. D’Face did an illustration and design course and worked as a freelance illustrator/designer whilst he developed his graffiti work. His graffiti is split into two types. The first type is a mixture of original text and cartoon images. The second type is also changes famous pictures by adding cartoon and text. His influences were skateboard deck graphics and stickers, hip hop music, punk music, popular animated cartoons and the work of artists Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. D’Face does his work by stencilling and free-hand spray painting. He has exhibited his work in art galleries since 2006. He owned and ran the Outside Institute. This was London’s first modern art gallery to show graffiti. In 2010, he worked with Christina Aguilera to design her album cover Bionic.
