1 In the Education sector
Consumer Engagement In the Education sector Miriam Adcock Project Manager – Consumer Waste Prevention Tel: I’m Andrew Pankhurst, National Partnerships Manager. I work on delivering consumer communications through partnerships with ZWS stakeholders, which includes things like campaigns weeks (RW, EWWR etc) and consumer behaviour change on topics like recycling, food waste and re-use. Want to talk about re-use today and talk you through our recently developed re-use comms plan.

2 Consumer Engagement campaigns/channels
Recycle for Scotland Love Food Hate Waste Re-use; National re-use phone line Revolve Love Your Clothes We’re shifting a greater amount of focus onto re-use going forward. Quite in depth campaigns on recycling and reducing food waste, time ti right for a more in depth focus on re-use. So we develop a re-use comms plan. It focuses on a number of area. Encouraging consumers to donate for re-use – through NRUPL Encouraging consumers to buy re-used – through Revolve Helping third sector organisations become Revolve accredited and promote the standard – through 3rd sec grants Capturing more re-usable items through HWRCs – through grant funding Shifting consumer behaviour towards a much greater re-use culture in Scotland – through PIOW

3 Special Weeks Recycle Week (June) European Week for Waste
Reduction (November) Pass it on Week (March) You are probably aware in some way of the NRUPL already – it’s been around for a few years and some LAs are already promoting it as a way to dispose of items in their area. Focus has been on getting national coverage for the line in last few years, signing up re-use organisations that can pick items up to give us good geographic coverage across Scotland. Focus now shifting on to widespread promotion of the line. Work already started on this and results show very clearly that this is a service that people really respond to. Much like the saying, build it and they’ll come, with the re-use line it’s a case of tell people about it and they’ll phone it. Ideal Home Show – 60% Regional releases – 300 to 900 calls a month

4 Pass it on Week Scotland’s new national re-use week
7th to 15th March 2015 Call to action for universities, colleges, schools, workplaces, community groups, local authorities, re-use organisations and individuals to organised re-use and repair themed events. We’re plannign to kick that off with a campaign week dedicated to re-use. A Pass it on Day was run by ZWS and CRNS back in 2010 and was well received, and some local authorities have carried that on, including P&K and Aberdeenshire. We wanted to being it back with a big push, and expand to a week to create more scope and flexibility to get people doing activity in workplaces and schools, and also to allow bigger events at weekends.
