Unit 2 Computer Systems

2. Task 1 (Outcome P3)
Produce a written report that will explain the purpose of the following utilities (up to 500 words).
Anti-Virus software
Firewall software
Disk performance system tools (Msconfig, Defrag, CCleaner,etc.)
Disk preparation tool (Windows Disk Management, Gparted, etc.)
Hint - The report must include:
An outline description of the utility and explain why you would use the utility with examples where it would be necessary to use the utility.

3. Task 1 Part 2 (Outcome P8)
Carry out routine maintenance including installing and configuring anti-virus, firewall software and using disk optimisation tools as a part of classroom activities.
This task is assessed by witness statement (individual tasks are identified on the witness statement) but completed written tasks during the practical’s should also be submitted.

4. Task 2 (Outcome – P4) Scenario
The Managing director of a manufacturing company has agreed to install AutoCAD 2017 software onto the CAD team computer systems. The current systems are out-dated and will not work with the new software.
Task 2
You have been asked to produce a presentation for the managing director that recommends an appropriate complete computer system with a Windows 10 Operating System (suited for a business) for the given scenario (32 bit or 64 bit depending on the PC you select), the entire system must be within a budget of £900.

5. Task 2 (Outcome – P4)
Your presentation should include a slide for each of the following:
An introduction which outlines the purpose of the report.
Identify the recommended hardware specification required for AutoCAD when using Microsoft Windows 10, by visiting the AutoCAD website, include the hyperlink used.
Place the AutoCAD 2017 hardware requirements and the managing director’s requirements into a table to identify the full requirements.
Add any requirements that you think may be required that may be missing (e.g. monitor and suggested size, OS, keyboard and mouse)
Carry out research to find a suitable computer system with component level information that will meet or exceed the full requirements, place the information into a table within the presentation. Include a hyperlink to the system you have found.
Produce a final comparison table with the full requirements and your recommended computer specification, indicating where the requirements have been met.

6. Task 3 (Outcome M2) Scenario
The managing director has also been recommended the following computer system as a complete solution (Zoostorm Desktop PC) pico-desktop-pc £
He is excited about the cost and would like to know how if differs to the system you have recommended and which is the best option?

7. Task 3 (Outcome M2)
Produce a written report that will compare your recommended system from task 2 and computer system recommended by the managing director.
(up to 500 words)
Copy the table from task 2 (slide 5) extend the table to include the specification of new computer system.
Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each system based on their components.
Include a comparison of price and budget.
Make a selection and final recommendation as to the most suitable computer to for the given scenario.

8. Task 4 (Outcome D1)
Produce a written report to explain how software utilities can improve the performance of Computer Systems. Select 3-4 utilities (e.g. Disk clean-up, compression tools, system cleaners, firewalls or anti-virus software). (500 words max)
Explain the term performance and how poor performance can be recognised by a user
E.g. response time (time to boot, load a program, etc.)
Include the resources that are affected e.g. Hard disk, speed and space
Internet Bandwidth, System reliability and security.
Identify utilities that can improve performance and explain how they improve performance with reference to components that are enhanced.
You should include your own measureable tests where performance (speed, reliability) is tested (e.g. before and after tests /timed tests booting a PC, space saving within a hard disk or Internet throughput) or benchmarking to add supporting evidence to your report. 
Reference all of your research (this provides evidence that research has been carried out)
