1 Project Ideas! What to make for your final project?

2 PJ Bottoms! A nice easy project that you could make for a gift or for yourself. They are unisex. They include many of the basic sewing techniques we have covered in class such as seams, hems and an elasticated or draw string waistband. What will I need? Tape measure, fabric, sewing machine, thread, pins, iron, scissors, elastic, interfacing and a safety pin. Recommended fabrics to use: cotton, polycotton, gingham, jersey or flannel.

3 Apron! The most simple of these projects, a nice easy pattern to follow using basic techniques such as measuring, cutting, seams and hems. You can make this pattern more complex by adding patch pockets or decorative finishing touches. The apron is in one size only but can be adapted easily to suit. What will I need? Tape measure, fabric (2 metres maximum), sewing machine, thread, pins, iron and scissors. Recommended fabrics to use: cotton, polycotton, linen, lightweight denim, canvas, gingham.

4 Tote Bag! Another project that can be made as complex or as simple as you like. You can add pockets with button holes or an endless amount of decorative finishing touches. What will I need? Tape measure, fabric (2 metres maximum), sewing machine, thread, pins, iron, scissors and a button if you wish to use one. Recommended fabrics to use: a heavy cotton, polycotton, lightweight denim or canvas.

5 Christmas Stocking! A festive project that you could give as a gift or simple make for yourself! You could make this out of patchwork, including lots of Christmas colours and patterns, or you could make it plain and simply add your own embellishments and decorations (such as the decorative sewing machine stitches). What will I need? Tape measure, fabric (1 ½ metres maximum), sewing machine, thread, pins, iron, scissors and any embellishments you may need (wadding, bondaweb, beads, ribbon etc). Recommended fabrics to use: cotton, polycotton, felt or canvas.

6 Simple Top! This project is for those who are more confident with using the sewing machine. It is very versatile and can be made in a size 8 – 18 in a variety of fabrics and patterns. It includes techniques such as seams, darts, folds, hems and bias binding. What will I need? Tape measure, fabric, sewing machine, thread, pins, iron, scissors, bias binding (3 ½ metres). Recommended fabrics to use: cotton, polycotton, crepe or any lightweight fabric.
