4 Track and Field Day: Tuesday
May 31st is our First Grade Track and Field Day. Please send a water bottle, towel, hat and EASY snack with your child that day. Have the items labeled. In the event that the weather is bad, we will try to reschedule for later in the week. We might not know if it is cancelled until the morning of, so plan on sending these items on Monday.

5 Field Trip June 6th: MN Zoo
More information will be coming home this week. Plan on packing a cold lunch with a drink along with a snack that day. Disposable containers works well so they don’t have to walk around the zoo with their lunchbox all day. Students should wear an orange shirt, comfortable shoes and layered clothing. Children should not bring money for the gift shop and will be responsible for carrying their own things.

6 Last Day of School: June 7th
Weather permitting, we will be walking to Central Park for a picnic. Please pack a cold lunch that day (We will need a cold lunch on Monday for our field trip to the zoo as well!)

7 Music Program I am SO proud of how great the students did at the music concert this past week! Thank you to the following: Students for practicing so hard Parents for helping students remember lines and songs Parent volunteers who helped make this performance awesome!

8 Grandparents’ Day Thank you to all of the grandparents who were able to visit us on Friday! We had 58 grandparents/visitors in our room!!! It was so great to meet everyone. Be sure to check out some pictures from this great event!

9 Last Day of Breakfast The last day to get breakfast in the cafeteria is June 3rd

10 We will celebrate your child’s birthday here at school
If you decide to send store bought treats or goodies please send 24 of them. If it's a weekend day we can celebrate the Friday before or Monday after. We will also celebrate ½ birthdays. If this doesn’t work for you we can celebrate it in May. Please let me know which day you will choose if it falls on the weekend or holiday break. May Birthdays 20th: Emma V. 29th: Anna 30th: Noah

13 Reading Homework No more pink reading homework sheets sent home on Wednesdays We are done checking out books and there will be no more book bags brought home this year. I encourage you to continue reading at home and to check out the Delano Library often this summer; they have a lot of fun reading programs for the kids.

14 Spelling Words: my, try, dry, pie, cried, night, light, should, across, myself, brighter *Practice writing sentences with word wall words and spelling words so your child will be prepared to write a sentence on the final test.

15 Challenge Words A few students have been asked to do challenge words. If your child is one of those students, please help them study these words. Challenge Words: delightful brighten magpie penalty anxiety

16 Anticipated Homework:
Math Concepts in this Unit: Year-End Review and Assessment. This unit reviews graphing and data tables, telling time, mental arithmetic, geometry, thermometers and temperature, place value, scrolls, and number grids. 19 Word of the Week Extra: Each week, your child can receive a sticker for their sticker book by writing down our special word/phrase of the week along with a parent signature. This word also helps me to know that you have seen the newsletter! They love stickers! Word of the week: Track and Field Day!

20 Family Journals are due each Monday.
Please find your child’s current entry and use the next empty page to complete your response to your child. I also encourage you to use the letter format to allow your child to see and experience that format.

21 General Homework Expectations
Mondays: Spelling words and word wall words will come home (practice these words to be ready for the spelling test on Friday Wednesdays: Wednesday work: students complete the comprehension page as well as practice reading the words on the opposite side. When you feel your child is confident in knowing the words and has completed the comprehension page, please return it to the classroom. It is due by the following Tuesday at the latest. Monday through Friday: Math homework will be sent home each day, except Wednesdays. I expect each page to come back the following day.
