1 A Multidisciplinary Engineering PBL
Cardboard Challenge A Multidisciplinary Engineering PBL

2 Launch What inspired Caine to build an arcade?
What did he use as materials? Why do you think he persisted? Introduce Critical Friends Protocol

3 Driving Question How can we design and create a game out of recycled materials that will be playable and entertaining for our classmates?

4 Standards Math 3.1a: The student uses mathematical processes to acquire and demonstrate mathematical understanding. The student is expected to apply math to problems arising in everyday life, society, and the workplace. SS 3.3 History. The student understands the concepts of time and chronology. The student is expected to: 3.3A Use vocabulary related to chronology, including past, present, and future times. 3.3B Create and interpret timelines. 3.3C Apply the terms year, decade, and century to describe historical times. Science 3.1b Recycling/Disposal of Science Materials. The student is expected to make informed choices in the use and conservation of natural resources by recycling or reusing materials such as paper, aluminum cans, and plastics. ELAR 3.17: The student use elements of the writing process: planning, drafting, revising, editing, publishing, to compose a text.

5 Entry Document Know / Need to Know Design & Build Recycled Timelines
Groups Due Date Presenting What is the Imagination Foundation? What is the Design Process? What is chronology? What is a timeline? What recycled materials do we get to use?

6 Workshop #1: Engineering Design Process
Who creates games & how? Explore small games & compare: rules, parts, designs Discuss: Who creates games? What is an engineer? Discuss steps of EDP Reflect on the process

7 Workshop #2: Games Through History
What games have been created through history? Explore Games around the world through history using GoogleTreks Create a Game Timeline Teams: Brainstorm: What games can we create?

8 Workshop #3: Math is Everywhere
What math tools & strategies will you need for your design? Brainstorm math tools & strategies that could be applied to design & play Teams: Design & List Materials for Game

9 Workshop #4: Building Tips & Tricks
