1 CHOSEN For Holiness

3 “Take off his filthy clothes.”
3 Joshua’s clothing was filthy as he stood there before the angel. 4 So the Angel said to the others standing there, “Take off his filthy clothes.”

4 And turning to Joshua He said, “See, I have taken away your sins,
and now I am giving you these fine new clothes.”

5 like filthy rags; we all fade as a leaf,
6 But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; we all fade as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. Isaiah 64:6

6 the angel of the LORD stood by.
5 Then I said, “They should also place a clean turban on his head.” So they put a clean priestly turban on his head and dressed him in new clothes while the angel of the LORD stood by.

7 HOLINESS TO THE LORD

8 HOLINESS TO THE LORD. 36 “You shall also make a plate of pure gold
and engrave on it, like the engraving of a signet: HOLINESS TO THE LORD. 37 And you shall put it on a blue cord, that it may be on the turban; it shall be on the front of the turban.

9 38 So it shall be on Aaron’s forehead, that
Aaron may bear the iniquity of the holy things which the children of Israel hallow in all their holy gifts; and it shall always be on his forehead, that they may be accepted before the Lord. Exodus 28:36-38

11 Our Position – 1 Peter 1:23-2:3
Our Designation – 1 Peter 2:9 Our Obligation – 1 Peter 2:9-12

12 OUR POSITION – Born Again
1 Peter 1 18…you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

13 19 but with the precious blood of Christ,
as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. 20 He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you.

14 not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God
23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever.

15

16 Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and
1 Peter 2 Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, 2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,

17 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

18

19 OUR POSITION – Living Stones
1 Peter 2 4 Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious,

20 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up
a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

21

22 9 But you are: a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation,
His own special people (possession)

23 the praises of Him who called you into His marvellous light;
What Next – OUR OBLIGATION …that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light;

24 What Next – OUR OBLIGATION
10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

25 Show everyone the goodness of God…
What Next – OUR OBLIGATION Show everyone the goodness of God…

26 What Next – OUR OBLIGATION Live properly

27 What Next – OUR OBLIGATION Live properly
11Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, Live properly

28 What Next – OUR OBLIGATION Live properly
12 having your conduct honourable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation. Live properly

29 What Next? 23 …be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and…put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. 22  …put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, Ephesians 4

30 What Next? Hebrews 12 14 Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:

31 What Next? Take Time to be Holy 441

32 help those who are weak, Forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek.
Take time to be holy, speak oft with your Lord; Abide in Him always, and feed on His Word. Make friends of God’s children, help those who are weak, Forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek.

33 Take time to be holy, the world rushes on; Spend much time in secret, with Jesus alone. By looking to Jesus, like Him you shall be; Your friends in your conduct His likeness shall see.

34 Take time to be holy, let Him be your Guide; And run not before Him, whatever betide. In joy or in sorrow, still follow the Lord, And, looking to Jesus, still trust in His Word.

35 be calm in your soul, Each thought and each motive
Take time to be holy, be calm in your soul, Each thought and each motive beneath His control. Thus led by His Spirit to fountains of love, You soon shall be fitted for service above.

36

37 Live without fear:  The Lord has made you holy,  has always protected you,  and loves you unconditionally.

38 Go in peace to follow His leading, and may the blessing of
God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,  be with you always. Amen.
