Optochin (P-disc) susceptibility for Streptococcus pneumoniae identification. After inoculation of blood agar with S pneumoniae, a disc impregnated with optochin is placed on the plate. After 24 hours incubation, the formation of a growth-inhibition zone of greater than or equal to 14mm is considered confirmatory for identification of S. pneumoniae.
