1 Two confusing pairs of Three Tribes 让人迷糊的两组三个原始部落
Three celtic tribes: gaels, Britons, and Belgic tribes Three germantic tribes: Angles,Saxons and jutes

2 Who are the Celts and three Celtic Tribes
Celts( sometimes spelled as Selts or Kelts): 凯尔特人,赛尔特人, From around 750 BC to 12 BC, the Celts were the most powerful people in central and northern Europe. There were many groups (tribes) of Celts, speaking a vaguely common language. The word Celt comes from the Greek word, Keltoi, which means barbarians and is properly pronounced as "Kelt". No-one called the people living in Britain during the Iron Age, Celts until the eighteenth century. In fact the Romans called these people Britons, not Celts. The name Celts is a 'modern' name and is used to collectively describe all the many tribes of people living during the Iron Age.

3 Where did the Celts come from?
The Celts lived across most of Europe during the Iron Age. Several hundred years before Julius Caesar, they occupied many parts of central and western Europe, especially what are now Austria, Switzerland, southern France and Spain. Over several years, in wave after wave, they spread outwards, taking over France and Belgium, and crossing to Britain. Northwest Europe was dominated by three main Celtic groups: the Gauls(including the Belgic tribes),the Britons, the Gaels

4 Celts in Britain today Many Celts still live in UK today, mainly in Wales, Cornwall, Scotland and N. Ireland. The Celts in Britain stem from the two main types of Celt who invaded Britain: 1st: the Goidelic Celts (Gaels or Gaelic 盖尔人) - Scotland, Isle of Man and Ireland。 The Goidelic Celts were first to invade Britain (around 700 BC). They were later pushed into Ireland by their cousins the Brythonic (or British) Celts 2nd: the Brythonic celts (Britons 布里吞人) - roughly Wales and Cornwall, they came over in BC and invaded. The Brythonic occupied present day England and Wales. 3rd: the Belgic tribes(比利期人) came 100 BC from what is now southern Belgium and northern France, and they were related to the Britons already here. 5 Three Germanic Tribes Who were the Anglo-Saxons?
The Angle, Saxon, and Jute are known as the Anglo-Saxons. The Angles and the Saxon tribes were the largest of the three attacking tribes and are known as Anglo-Saxons. They shared the same language but were each ruled by different strong warriors. They came from north-western Europe. They began to invade Britain while the Romans were still in control. The Anglo-Saxons were tall, fair-haired men, armed with swords and spears and round shields. They loved fighting and were very fierce.

6 When did the Anglo-Saxons invade Britain?
The first Anglo-Saxons raided the shores of south and east England in the fourth century AD, but they were beaten back by the Romans. At the beginning of the fifth century, the Romans left Britain. They had not trained the British to defend themselves and so the next time the Saxons tried to invade Britain they succeeded. Where did the Anglo-Saxons come from? The Anglo-Saxons left their homelands in northern   Germany,   Denmark and   The Netherlands and rowed across the North Sea in wooden boats to Britain

7 Where did the Anglo-Saxon settle?
The Jutes settled mainly in Kent. They referred to themselves as 'the Kentings', i.e., the men living in Kent. The Angles settled in East Anglia. The Saxons settled in areas of Essex (East Saxons), Sussex (South Saxons), Middlesex (Middle Saxons), and Wessex (West Saxons).

8 How long did the Saxons stay in England?
They ruled in England for about 500 years until the Norman Conquest in 1066 ( a hundred years longer than the Romans). However, unlike the Romans, the Anglo-Saxons never 'went home; So many people living in Britain today have Anglo Saxon ancestors. The name  “England” even comes from the Saxon word “Angle-Land”.
