Protocols INTRODUCE, PRACTICE, REINFORCE!!! Protocols- routines or procedures for accomplishing specific duties within class. Starting and stopping signals Entering and leaving gym Equipment During Instruction (sit? stand? equipt?)

3 Protocol Tips If you say it, get it!
Only begin when you have their attention. Be Proactive – Anticipate. Face away from distractions (sun, etc) “When I say go…” ALWAYS check for understanding, but NOT rhetorical questions

4 Demonstrations Do you always have to “be able to” demonstrate?
Alternatives? Can everyone see you? (many factors) Whole/Part; Normal/Slow Organizational format Critical cues Brief Check for understanding

5 Learning “Cues” A word or phrase that identifies and communicates to a performer the critical features of a movement skill or task. Accurate & Consistent Wording Critical to task Few (1-3) Age/level appropriate

6 Get them going! Quick task variations!

7 Assignments Read Chapter 6 Name tags – LRC (takes 1-3 days)
Find Lesson Plans (choices) Striking Throwing Ball-Handling (feet) Volleying TB – The secretary at the school will be checking for TB documentation. If you have not turned in yours to me, you will not be permitted to go to the school for field exp = absent.
