Hitler’s most grandiose architectural project was to rebuild Berlin as a new city of Germania by It would give the regime power and permanence and last a Thousand Years. Hitler himself drew up the guidelines, there was to be a vast domed hall and a triumphant arch. Albert Speer was put in charge of the construction; but little was actually built.

The most famous Nazi producer was Leni Riefenstahl who made detailed recordings of rallies and festivals to inform people about all that was happening in Nazi Germany and to encourage their participation. Her most famous film was Triumph of Will (1935) about the 1934 Nuremberg Rally. The most famous anti-Semitic film was The Eternal Jew. Hitler insisted that it be as horrific as possible; but it was a flop in the cinemas and many found it too grim and there were even incidences of fainting. Goebbels realised that films were more successful if the message was given subtly – newsreels at the start of all films proved effective.
