2 How do you become a CMS missionary?
here are 12 steps…

3 Get involved Become an active member of CMS
step 1 Become an active member of CMS Start finding out about current areas of ministry and the realities of serving as a missionary

4 Be informed step 2 Come and chat with the General Secretary of your branch so you can ask questions and get more information.

5 Be qualified You will need to:
step 3 You will need to: Be already qualified in your area of work Have some experience Have completed at least one year of training at a Bible or theological college.

6 Apply step 4 When you have some certainty that missionary service in partnership with CMS is for you, prayerfully fill in the CMS application form.

7 Health check step 5 Being a missionary candidate with CMS requires health evaluation.

8 Branch interviews step 6 Interviews are conducted by members of your Branch Candidates Committee.

9 Federal interviews step 7 You will now be interviewed by the Federal Candidates Committee with a view to being accepted as a Missionary-in-Training. At this stage you will be talking through possible locations and considering if you need further preparation.

10 Build support step 8 Once accepted as a Missionary-in-Training the Branch staff will work with you to build a personal prayer and financial support base.

11 St Andrew’s Hall step 9 All Missionaries-in-Training take part in a residential course at the CMS training college in Melbourne to prepare them for cross-cultural ministry. Further interviews with the Federal Candidates Committee will finalise your location, the nature of your work and date of departure.

12 Home Assignment step 10 After training you return to your Branch as a Missionary on Home Assignment. You will receive an allowance from CMS and will spend several months visiting churches and groups to help build your support base.

13 Study language step 11 Language study is the important priority in the first tour of service and is arranged by CMS.

14 Go step 12 Tours of service are usually from 30 to 48 months followed by six months Home Assignment where you report back to your supporters and strengthen your partnership with them.
