2 Building Content-Partnerships
Before Content—Legal Counsel Submission form/copyright Journal policies—Open Access Graduate School—Theses/Dissertations Center for Research on Violence Against Women Linguistics Program Journals We have had the privilege of working with multiple people/units to populate our site. These partnerships have been quite varied. Legal Counsel—we were quite concerned about copyright and wanted to make sure our submission forms covered the issue adequately; also we wanted any journals we hosted to be Open Access. So we worked with Legal on the articulation of those policies Content: We had been using DSpace to make our theses/dissertations available electronically so when we decided to use Digital Commons for our repository, theses and dissertations were saved for us until such time we could start uploading them. We worked with the Graduate School on their site and they provided the materials. Center for Research on Violence Against Women This Center will eventually have 12 endowed chairs; each affiliated with various departments/colleges. The Director of the Center wanted to make her publications and those of her faculty available on one site. I worked with one of the graduate students to show how to obtain copyright permissions/information—and the Center’s staff did the work. We provided training and gave administrative rights for their site on UKnowledge. We were on-hand to help with problem solving… Linguistics: Trying to jumpstart content on the site We decided to work with a smaller Program and do all the work of getting materials into the system We obtained copyright permissions for as much as we could Journals Wayne

UK Knowledge is a tremendous scholarly resource. It has advanced the Center’s national visibility, particularly with respect to our published scholarship. At a practical level, it has increased citations and aided us in organizing our publications and promoting our authors. Carol E.
