1 ACT – Take the CHALLENGE
October 16, 2017

2 TAKE the CHALLENGE to turn test scores into MONEY
Your child’s test scores can earn them money towards their college education.

3 6 Pathways following high school
4-Year College or University Community College Vocational or technical school Military Service Work Apprenticeship 6 Pathways following high school There are basically 6 path-ways after high school graduation. Today we are focusing on 2: the 4-year college and the 2-year Community College bridge paths Our focus today is on post-secondary education

1. How to help you qualify for college or university admission 2. How to help YOU earn MERIT $cholarships for college How to JOIN the 2017 ACT Challenge

5 Many Forms of Higher Education
Less than $5,000 Community Colleges Two-year MCCCD programs All students are accepted Large Public Universities $13,000 -$29,000 Criterion-based admission May live on campus or at home In-state Private Colleges $16,000 –$27,000 Criterion-based admission + May live on campus or at home Out-of-state Liberal Arts Colleges Up to $70,000 Admissions is holistic + May be less costly than in-state

6 Here’s the payoff for hard work
Actual financial aid award letter This Student earned the Bowdoin Grant which is partially awarded based on Act/SAT test scores. This number changes with the test scores, gpa and overall financial need of the family Notice: There are no loans on this package!

7 Locate your student's GPA along the left column, then slide your finger along until you get to an ‘A’,now move your finger up to determine the test score your child would need to earn a $2000 scholarship. If your child earned 3 more points on the ACT they would increase that scholarship to $3,000, an additional 4 points and they earn $6000 and it continues. The higher the ACT score the more scharhsip $$ your child earns towards college saving your family thousands of dollars, and anxiety about paying for your child’s college education.

8 Equivalent scores on the SAT that compare to ACT scores… so that the $ amounts on the other side of the handout still reference how much scholarship a student can earn based on test scores
