1 Microscope Measurement
Microscope Measurement – In order to measure the size of a specimen or object in a microscope’s field of view the following steps must be performed. Convert the field of view from mm to µm. 1mm = _______________ um Count the number of organisms or objects that can fit across the field of view. If there is only one object, you must estimate how many can fit across the diameter. Divide the number of objects into the field of view diameter.

2 Measuring with a Microscope
To determine the length of an micro-organism while observing with a microscope use the following FORMULA. Diameter field of view measurement Estimated number of specimens that would fit across the diameter

3 I. Measuring with microscope
1. The diameter of the field of view below measure 2.50 mm. Calculate the size of the organism under observation in micrometers. 2.5 mm = _________ m Field of view # of Objects # organisms that fit across _______

4 3. The diameter of the field of view below measure 5 mm
3. The diameter of the field of view below measure 5 mm. Calculate the size of the organism under observation in millimeters. 5 mm = _________um # organisms that fit across _______

5 2. The diameter of the field of view below measure 5. 25 mm
2. The diameter of the field of view below measure 5.25 mm. Calculate the size of the organism under observation in micrometers.
