Today we are looking at the moon and the different phases of the moon By the end of the lesson we will have been successful when we have: Named the different apparent forms of the moon Explained how the different phases of the moon arise in terms of its orbit around the Earth.

4 The Sun and the Moon look about the same size from Earth, but they are not. The Sun is about 400 times wider than the Moon but is 400 times further away! The Moon takes just over 27 days to orbit the Earth. Only the surface of the Moon which faces the Sun will be illuminated (half of the sphere). sunlight
