Recall: The graph of the linear function y = mx + b is a line. m> m<0 A Quadratic Function takes the form: y = ax2 + bx + c

2 Graph the quadratic function y = x2
Graph y = -1x2

3 The graph of a quadratic function y = ax2 + bx + c is called a parabola.
If a>0, the parabola opens up. If a<0, the parabola opens down. The x value of the vertex is given by x = -b/2a The equation of the axis of symmetry is x = -b/2a The y intercept is c.

4 Find the vertex, the equation of the axis of symmetry, and graph the function.
y = 5x2 + 10x - 7 y = -x2 + 8x - 4
