1 Selections and seasonal shades
I’m doing this old school… A Design problem

2 Don’t use symbols or pictures
Warm Up In Your Sketchbook In your sketchbook: Divide a page into four equal sections. Using only lines, shapes, and colors – but no symbols or pictures of something you could name - depict the four seasons

3 Objective Students will know and be able to use basic Photoshop tools (rulers, guidelines, rectangular marquis selection, color picker, paint bucket, and layers) to create a quilted grid piece with four layers, each representing in color palette only, a season. Save as: last name_first name_seasons.psd Due Date: Monday, September 10

4 Palettes are a big deal See this link:

5 Setting up the piece Hint: Save often while making your piece.

6 To Begin: Open a new file (see below)

7 Click on “Rulers” or Ctrl+R
Choose “View” Click on “Rulers” or Ctrl+R

8 Create a grid line at each inch across the top of your piece.
Click and hold the mouse button over the ruler, then drag the mouse to the location for the grid line – one inch This grid line helps you see where to place something, it will not show on the final piece.

9 Use the same method to make horizontal lines at each inch down the side.

10 Create a grid with seasonal colors
Color has meaning. See the girl below – she knows.

11 Create a layer for your first season.
2) Double-click on your new layer’s name to change it to “Summer” 1) Click on the “New Layer” icon

12 Select the “Rectangular Marques Tool” and draw a square in the first box of your grid (it should snap to the edges of the grid)

13 Open the color picker by clicking on one of the two boxes that is a solid color.
Use the sliders to find a summer color. Then click “OK.”

14 Put one new color into each box of your season’s grid (in the end there will be 25 colors per season, and 100 colors overall). Use the “Paint Bucket” to put the color into the rectangular selection you have made.

15 Create a new layer for each of the fours seasons.
Ooooh La La! Fall Summer Spring Winter

16 When you are starting a new layer, click on the “eyeball” to the left of the layer you just completed to hide it, so the colors won’t be confusing. Here is the “eyeball”

17 Finishing your piece... Save your piece as last name_first name_seasons.psd Save your piece as a Photoshop file. Turn it into your teacher’s Hand In folder in the period you are taking Digital Art 1. Due: September 10, 2012 (Monday) Deadline: September 14, 2012 (Friday)
