Magna Carta (1215)- limited the powers of the king. Parliament- 2 houses- House of Lords and House of Commoners Balance of Power

8 Magna Carta and the U.S. The Magna Carta stated:
No freeman shall be taken, imprisoned,...or in any other way destroyed...except by the lawful judgment of his peers, or by the law of the land. 575 years later in The 5th Amendment: No person shall...be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.

The Glorious Revolution- The “Bloodless Revolution”: The overthrow of King James II, an absolute monarch Created the English “Bill of Rights” Gave Englishmen a set of freedoms Proved that people could unite against a king and win English Influence

England’s policy of salutary neglect was to let the colonies govern themselves. Though England imposed rules on the colonies those rules were not strictly enforced. The freedom and isolation from England resulted in an Independent American Identity
