2 Ten Thousand Things Figure 2 The Cosmic Dao is constantly creating the Ten Thousand Things, and they are used to express the creative power of Dao (Alles). The Ten Thousand Things is a metaphor for the World (Dao). The Ultimate source is where the Ten Thousand Things were started and are taught about (The Ultimate Source). (This is a picture of the Cosmic Dao who creates the Ten Thousand Things)

3 Three Dantians Figure 7 Dan is translated as “pill” or “elixir” (“Cinnabar and Buddhism”). The three dantians are spiritual, energy fields found in the head, heart, and abdomen. They are controlled by the One or yi (“Baopuzi Neipian”). There is a story about three worms that live in the three dantians. They appear as humans or demons and can cause diseases. To get rid of the worms one must not eat meat or grains (“Daoist ‘Three Worms’”). Figure 8

4 Three Purities Figure 3 They are known as the Three Pure One. They are the gods of earth, heaven, and humanity. The Jade Purity is the first heaven Yu Qing. Yuanshi Tianzun The Great Purity is the second heaven Shang Qing. Lingbao Tianzun The Highest Purity is the third heaven Tai Qing. Daode Tianzun (“Three Pure Ones”) Add on rituals

5 Figure 4 Three Treasures Qi is translated as “breath” and refers to matter and energy. Jing is translated as “essence” and refers to semen. Shen is translated as “spirit” and refers to consciousness with emotion and thoughts. The body has three treasures that are present in the universe. The qi is a central theme of internal alchemy. 6 Wuwei Translates from Chinese to English to mean “non-action”. This was a philosophy that was taught by Chinese philosophers in the 3rd and 4th centuries. Although wuwei translates to not acting, it more specifically means to not act in ways that are not elevated in accordance with the Tao (Irons). By practicing wuwei it means to respect the harmony between the heaven, earth, and humanity (Wuwei). Figure 1

7 Yang Figure 5 Yang represents males, light, brightness, sky, action, husband, ruler, father, rational, hot, the living. Yang literally means "the sunny side" of a hill. In Chinese, sun is tai yang, or "great yang."

8 Yin Figure 6 Yin represents: females, darkness, shade, cloudiness, water, wife, subject, mother, mysterious, cold, the dead. Yin, the shady side of the hill, is yang's opposite, but it cannot be separated from Yang.

9 Zaoshen Zao Shen, Wade-Giles romanization Tsao Shen, in Chinese religion, the Kitchen God (“god of the hearth”) Believed to report to the celestial gods on family conduct and to have it within his power to bestow poverty or riches on individual families. Figure 9 Ancient Chinese Currency
