8 Unified Architecture Framework
Unified Architecture Framework Strategic Direction Mission Statement and Workshop Objectives Mr. Walt Okon Senior Architect Engineer DoD Chief Information Officer Office

9 Unified Architecture Framework
Unified Architecture Framework Strategic Direction Move towards a Single Architecture Framework to achieve Interoperability Development of the AMN architecture in 2010 Development of Unified Profile for DoDAF and MODAF (UPDM) Versions 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 Meeting at Object Management Group (OMG) March 2012 Ideas Meeting in June 2012 Plan for NATO CAT workshop 10/11 Sept 2012

10 ARCHITECTURE FRAMEWORKS
Need for Unified Architecture Framework: Differences in DoDAF, MODAF, and NAF make it difficult to achieve interoperability Inability to analyze architectures correctly Difficult to share across domains Miscommunication between architects High cost Tool Vendor incalpatability.

11 Elements of Quality Architecture
Policy, Direction, Guidance Single Architecture Framework Architecture Exchange Architecture Tools Trained/Certified Architects Enabling efficient and effective acquisition of hardware, software and services used by DoD in missions deliverables. Unified Architecture Framework 11

12 Unified Architecture Framework
Mission Statement and Workshop Objectives

13 Unified Architecture Framework
Mission Statement: To achieve a Unified Architecture Framework to support design, development, and delivery of capability architecture that can be exchanged and shared for interoperability. Workshop Objectives: Understand critical need for a unified framework. Understand the information sharing movement Achieve unity and commitment to a strategic direction Know the direction forward to achieve UAF

14 Unified Architecture Framework
Discussed; National Architecture Movement in US across all levels of government Agreements: Architecture was foundational Used in Government, Industry, and Universities Major need for educated and trained architects Need for authority, governance, and process Need to design architectures for interoperability UAF will enable interoperability UAF to define a Collaborative Planning Methodology Acceptance , Architecture Framework Convergence Vision

16 Unified Architecture Framework
Workshop Accomplishments: Delivered all presentations according to planned agenda Presented and discussed Letter of Strategic Intent Presented and discussed UAF Roadmap Agreement UAF is necessary and beneficial Harmonization of Frameworks is good Agreement UAF is the way ahead Agreement that IDEAS Nations have to update Letter of Strategic Intent

17 Workshop Action Items US will provide the DoD Architects Competency Framework to NATO Architecture Cat IDEAS group will revise the Letter of Strategic Intent NATO Architecture CaT will post Workshop presentation on the Wiki US to provide the US, Common Approach to Federal Enterprise Architecture to NATO Architecture CaT US to provide DoD IEA Volumes 1 and 2. ===================================== Others: Define “Enterprise” Issue of Governance, What is the purpose of this group? What are the task that the Architecture CaT?

18 Harmonization of Frameworks
Architecture CaT Members to go to the Drew Room (behind the post office and the cashier) for lunch; hot dogs and hamburgers. Purpose: To raise money for the USMC ball. Cheapest meal in Brussels.
