1 I Corinthians 16: 13 Analyzed
Introduction: We must make sure we understand what a verse is saying. Hence, let us consider some different translations of I Corinthians 16: 13.

2 I Corinthians 16: 13 Analyzed
“Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, act like men, be strong” (KJV). “Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong” (NASV). “Be keeping a watchful eye ever open. Be standing fast in the faith. Be showing yourselves to be men. Be mighty in strength” (Wuest’s Expanded Translation).

3 I Corinthians 16: 13 Analyzed
“Be alert and on your guard; stand firm in your faith [that is, your conviction respecting man’s relationship to God and divine things, keeping the trust and holy fervor born of faith and a part of it. Act like men and be courageous; grow in strength!” (The Amplified New Testament.)

4 I Corinthians 16: 13 Analyzed
“13 Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. (The New International Version)

5 GOD SPOKE Strong winds are coming against the church to shake the foundation of faith. Be on alert because some will fall from the grace following ideas of men, the trends of the world, and their own desires. The faith of the people of God will be tested. Stay strong in the foundation.

6 GOD SPOKE 1 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2 Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. (1 Tim. 4:1-2)

7 I Corinthians 16: 13 Analyzed
Analysis: Let us understand I Corinthians 16: 13. We will use the New American Standard Translation for our examination of Paul’s teaching, considering each of the four parts of the verse.

8 I Corinthians 16: 13 Analyzed
"Be on the alert..." Acts 20: 31 So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.

11 I Corinthians 16: 13 Analyzed
"Stand firm..." 2 Tim. 4: 16- Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

12 I Corinthians 16: 13 Analyzed
"Stand firm..." Rom. 14: 4- Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand.

15 I Corinthians 16: 13 Analyzed
"Stand firm in the faith..." Phili. 3: Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

16 I Corinthians 16: 13 Analyzed
"Act like men..." To “act like men” involves a certain amount of maturity, responsibility, and resolve. It means to be courageous and committed no matter what. Comments: Our society is replete with boys who call themselves men! Young women often marry such and end up with no leadership and headship in the family structure. Churches are full of such immature males who have the spiritual development of a child. Too many “preachers” and “elders” are nothing more than overgrown boys in men’s bodies.

17 I Corinthians 16: 13 Analyzed
"Act like men..." Gal. 2: 5: We did not give in to them for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you. Comments: Our society is replete with boys who call themselves men! Young women often marry such and end up with no leadership and headship in the family structure. Churches are full of such immature males who have the spiritual development of a child. Too many “preachers” and “elders” are nothing more than overgrown boys in men’s bodies.

18 I Corinthians 16: 13 Analyzed
"Act like men..." Tit. 1: He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it. Comments: Our society is replete with boys who call themselves men! Young women often marry such and end up with no leadership and headship in the family structure. Churches are full of such immature males who have the spiritual development of a child. Too many “preachers” and “elders” are nothing more than overgrown boys in men’s bodies.

19 I Corinthians 16: 13 Analyzed
"Act like men..."  10 For there are many rebellious people, full of meaningless talk and deception, especially those of the circumcision group. 11 They must be silenced, because they are disrupting whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach—and that for the sake of dishonest gain. 12 One of Crete’s own prophets has said it: “Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons.”13 This saying is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith Comments: Our society is replete with boys who call themselves men! 20 I Corinthians 16: 13 Analyzed
"Be strong...." I John 2: 14- I write to you, dear children,    because you know the Father. I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men,    because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

21 I Corinthians 16: 13 Analyzed
"Be strong...." Heb. 5: 12, 14- In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! 13 Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14 But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

22 ABOVE ALL ELSE Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Prov. 4:23
