1 Warm Up homework out Check odds in the back of the book
Answer the following questions. ( write question and fill in the blank) *The graph of x = -4 is a _______ line that crosses the x-axis at ____. *The graph of y = 3 is a _____ line that crosses the y- axis at ____. *Where do the 2 graphs intersect?

2 4.3 Intercepts of Graphs x- intercept: the x-coordinate of the point where the graph crosses the x-axis (_, 0) y- intercept: the y- coordinate of the point where the graph crosses the y- axis (0,_) Finding Intercepts of Lines: To find the x-intercept of a line, substitute 0 in for “y” in the equation and solve for x. To find the y-intercept of a line, substitute 0 in for “x” in the equation and solve for y.

3 Find the x-intercept y = 3/2x – 3 0 = 3/2x – 3 +3 = +3 3 = 3/2x 3(2/3) = (2/3)(3/2)x 2 = x (2,0) is the x-intercept

4 Find the y- intercept of
y = 3/2x – 3 Y = 3/2(0) – 3 Y = -3 (0, -3) is the y-intercept

5 Find the x and y intercept for: y = 2x+6
X- intercept = (-3, 0) Y-intercept = (0, 6)

6 Quick sketch of a graph:
To sketch a quick graph of a linear equation, use your x-intercept and y-intercept. Graph those 2 points and draw a line through the 2 points and the graph. using the intercepts, you will only need 2 points! Example: Quick sketch y = 2x – 3 Solve for x and y intercepts Graph the 2 points Draw line through points

7 Joke of the day "Simon, if I had eight apples in my right hand and ten apples in my left hand, what would I have?” “Huge hands, sir.”

8 Practice finding intercepts!
