5 Changes to Solicitation
STEM Pathways Implementation-Only Alliance Projects are 5-year implementation projects available to new alliances, reconstituted alliances and existing LSAMP alliances with less than 10 years of support for evidence-based interventions that contribute to increases in STEM baccalaureate-degree production to historically underrepresented minority students. Cumulative project funding amounts based on STEM B.S. degree production STEM Pathways and Research Alliance Projects are 5-year implementation and research projects available to existing LSAMP alliances with 10 or more consecutive years of LSAMP funding support. These alliances are required to incorporate a research component fully dedicated to the production of scholarly research in broadening participation. Cumulative project funding amounts based on STEM B.S. degree production Bridges to the Baccalaureate Proposals must be submitted by institutions awarding Associate-level (AA) degrees only in a STEM or STEM-related field. Four-year baccalaureate institutions that also award STEM AA or AS degrees are ineligible to serve as lead institutions for B2B proposals

6 Changes to Solicitation (continued)
Louis Stokes Regional Center of Excellence in Broadening Participation are 3- or 5-Year Centers that serve as regional outreach and knowledge-diffusion centers of excellence for alliance and non-alliance organizations with a focus on increasing the knowledge base on BP topics through research, evaluation and synthesis activities Pre-Alliance Planning proposals’ project description is under "Other Types of Proposals or Projects" and provides additional guidance on baseline information required in the proposal Beginning in FY18, new proposals may include funding for annual National Science Foundation-Department of Energy (NSF-DoE) Cooperative Academic/Summer Research Laboratory Experiences in anticipation of DoE approved individual students or faculty/student teams Any proposal submitted in response to this solicitation should be submitted in accordance with the revised NSF Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG) (NSF 17-1), which is effective for proposals submitted, or due, on or after January 30, 2017

7 LSAMP Alliance Project Types
STEM Pathways Implementation-Only Alliances (SPIO) STEM Pathways and Research Alliances (SPRA) 5-Year implementation projects may focus on a particular STEM pathway and/or on activities dedicated to diversifying a particular STEM discipline 5-Year implementation and research projects that focus on the full STEM pathway but also serve as a hub for the production of scholarly STEM research and evaluation to increase the knowledge-base and utilization in broadening participation Available to new alliances, reconstituted alliances and existing LSAMP alliances with less than 10 years of support Available to existing LSAMP alliances with 10 or more consecutive years of LSAMP funding support Bridge to the Baccalaureate Alliances (B2B) Bridge to the Doctorate Activity (BD) 3-Year projects focused on activities that provide effective educational preparation of community college students from underrepresented minority populations for successful transfer to four-year institutions in STEM degree programs 2-Year projects focused on providing post-baccalaureate fellowship support to a cohort of 12 LSAMP students for the first two years of their STEM graduate studies and providing the necessary academic and research skills that will enable them to successfully earn STEM doctoral degrees and transition into the STEM workforce Partnerships between primarily associate degree producing institutions for which the lead institution must be a community college Eligible only to existing alliances funded more than 10 consecutive years to host a BD activity at one of its alliance institutions

8 LSAMP Alliance Project Types (continued)
Louis Stokes Regional Center of Excellence in Broadening Participation (LSRCE) Pre-Alliance Planning Grants 3- or 5-Year Centers that serve as regional outreach and knowledge-diffusion centers of excellence for alliance and non-alliance organizations with a focus on increasing the knowledge base on BP topics through research, evaluation and synthesis activities Up to 18-month projects that undertake planning activities to form new alliances If awarded pre-alliance support, NSF expects that a full alliance proposal will be submitted to the LSAMP program at the end of the planning period Available to universities/colleges, and non-academic, non- and for-profit organizations Conference Proposals To bring together experts in STEM education and BP research to discuss emerging trends/practices and how they could be used to address current issues and needs NSF-DOE Cooperative Activity Funding for NSF-DoE faculty/student research experiences in anticipation of approved individual students or faculty/student teams May be submitted at any time during the year by STEM-related professional societies, non-profit organizations, or institutions in well-established alliances The NSF provides participant costs (e.g., stipends, travel, housing for both students and faculty) including fringe and IDCs following approval from the labs for supplemental support to existing alliance awards Budgets should be commensurate with the duration of the event and the number of participants, but the cost should not exceed total of $150,000 per event

9 NSF-DOE Cooperative Activity
Institutions are responsible for documentation related to faculty/student acceptances and funding for audit purposes Proposal budgets must specifically identify costs for the NSF-DoE Cooperative Activity in the annual and cumulative budget justifications For supplemental funding, faculty costs for stipends, housing and travel may only be shown in "direct cost" categories in the budget with the appropriate indirect cost (IDC) calculation Alliances may also request reallocation of funds in active awards to support NSF/DoE summer research experiences

10 Other Funding Opportunities
Conference Proposals May be submitted at any time after speaking with a LSAMP Program Director Should include: rationale for organizing, draft agenda, list of invitees, expected outcomes Max of $150,000 EArly-Concept Grants for Exploratory Research (EAGER) Proposals Potentially transformative research ideas or approaches to address the LSAMP program's interest in building knowledge around broadening participation in STEM Ideas for EAGER submissions should be discussed with a NSF program officer prior to submission These proposals may be submitted at any time
