1 Workforce Performance Report April 2016
Mike McEnaney Director of Finance

2 Bank & Agency Spend Bank & Agency spend has increased in March to an approximated figure of 7.85% from 7.10% in February. This is a calculated value which aims to smooth out an in-month figure of 12.40%. This spike in Agency spend was due to a problem with the receipt of invoices from an agency provider. The Finance department have been able to amend these figures at Trust level but have not yet applied this at Directorate or Staff Group level – as a result the bottom two charts on this page display significant spikes in March. Target: 5.00% This Month: 7.85% Last Month: 7.10% Last Year: 8.10% Chart does not show smoothing for March spike. Chart does not show smoothing for March spike.

3 Vacancy Target: 9.00% This Month: 10.30% Last Month: 10.08%
The Vacancy rate increased slightly to 10.30% in March but the rate has remained steady over the past three months at approximately 10%. Whilst Adult and Older People’s Directorates saw a decrease in the vacancy rate this was offset by an increase in Corporate and Children & Young People’s (this is a seasonal increase due to student recruitment). Resourcing continue to work closely with managers in attempting to fill posts particularly in difficult to fill areas such as inpatient mental health wards (Adults & Older People), Community Hospitals, District Nursing Teams and Speech & Language Therapists. Vacancy Target: 9.00% This Month: 10.30% Last Month: 10.08% Last Year: 5.76%

4 Sickness Sickness has increased to 4.49% in March compared to 4.29% in February. The increase in sickness is driven by the winter surge of short-term cold and flu absence. After a consistent decline over the last 5 months, ‘Anxiety and Stress’ has shown an increase in March. This needs to be addressed and will be considered when assessment of EAP proposal is progressed in May. Target: 3.50% This Month: 4.49% Last Month: 4.29% Last Year: 4.32%

5 Turnover The Turnover rate has increased to stand at 14.35%. Adult, Older and Corporate have seen an increase in turnover with Children & Young People directorates remaining unchanged. Individual directorates are establishing workforce work stream to take forward initiatives to improve recruitment and retention whilst Resourcing are organizing open days to attract qualified staff. Target: 12.00% This Month: 14.35% Last Month: 14.12% Last Year: 13.06%
