Students are encouraged to think about the wider world and to empathise with those living very different lives. In Y8, students spend half a term investigating life in Kibera in Kenya, using images, radio broadcasts, role play, video and NGO resources. At the end of the topic, students complete two tasks: to market a property in a shanty town by considering all the positive aspects of life there, and an enquiry on changes taking place in the shanty town and how they affect residents’ quality of life. Hitchin Girls’ School B1b: There is evidence of links with the wider world and enrichment activities.
