3 ECONOMIC VALUE 1. Entire INDIAN RIVER LAGOON [IRL] -The total estimated annual economic value of the lagoon is $3.7 billion, supporting 15,000 full and part-time jobs and providing recreational opportunities for 11 million people per year[2016]. Note. The IRL is 156 miles long, the lake Okeechobee discharges affect the lower 30 miles [20%] for an economic value of $740 Million dollars annually The Everglades Foundation’s fact sheet Everglades Restoration:a 4-to-1 return on investment note that an $11.5 billion investment in Everglades Restoration[ CERP and CEPP] will return $46.5 billion in economic gains to Florida’s economy, create 440,000 jobs over next 50 years or roughly $1 billion [$970 M ]economic gain per year. The fact sheet divides the gain as follows: water quality [for potable use] 28%, real estate 35%, fishing 5 %, habitat and hunting, 27% open space 2% and park visitation 3% A study of the economic value of both fresh water and saltwater fishing in the Florida Keys[most of which is within Everglades national park boundary] totaled $722 Million annually for direct costs and a total of $1.2 for economic multiplier The Economic Impact of Recreational Fishing in the Everglades Region, Fedler, T., Ph.D. for the Bonefish and Tarpon Trust, Dec I assume that the oceanic fishing from the Keys is 2/3 of the total to reduce the ENP to $240 Million annually Econ impact Everglades704e4f6cc378aa765d_2ym6bi7f6.pdf Economics is not my field so I can not attest to the accuracy of these economic analysis.
