Preschool and Childcare Center for ages 6 weeks thru 12 years Opened September 2009 Programs for infants, toddlers, preschool, junior kindergarten, before/after school, and summer camp Currently about 125 children enrolled

35-40 employees (substitutes, part-time and full-time teachers) Open Monday-Friday 6:30AM-6:30PM Generally 2 teachers/classroom (lead & assistant) Teacher/child ratios: Infants/toddlers 1:4 3 year olds 1:8 2 year olds 1:5 4/5 year olds 1:10 Older 2’s 1:6 School age 1:12

6 What’s Happening New Employee Education- Manual
New employees are given employee manual Most employees have read manual Most employees own or have access to manual Employee manual is missing some components

7 What’s Happening New Employee Education- Orientation
Consists of reading manual, receiving tour and observing current teachers Many employees have reported that they have not received any orientation training Substitute teachers do not receive orientation training at all

8 What’s Happening Current Employee Education- Continued Learning
Rare and irregular training programs (generally when there is an issue to be addressed) Staff meetings held on as-needed basis Some meetings specific to class age Will begin having monthly meetings in Sept. Staff wants to be trained on various topics

New Employee Education- Manual All employees should read and own/have access to the manual Manual should be thorough and serve as a reference that employees can refer back to

New Employee Education- Orientation Employees should have some type of orientation training with evaluation included

Current Employee Education- Continued Learning Meetings that include all staff members Regular training programs to encourage continued learning

Most employees have worked at GS for 1-3 years Most employees are full-time teachers Most employees work with 2’s and 3’s Most have read the employee manual Most have access to or own the employee manual Most received minimal training from GS upon hire- many had prior experience in education Most are certified in CPR and First Aid Many received CPR and First Aid training at GS or other child care centers Most would like to learn more about learning theories and teaching strategies, many would like to learn more about GS classroom policies and how to work with different age groups Employees would like better orientation training, more meetings, and instruction on behavior management

Include what’s missing Manual distributed to each new hire Agree signed by new hire verifying that they read manual Orientation training program Develop PowerPoint for each new hire to view on GS computer Give all new employees tour of facility following PowerPoint Distribute assessment for employees to take by hand following PP and tour- must pass by 80% or repeat process Periodical training programs Develop outline for periodic training programs based off of the interests/concerns of employees
