1 Year 1: Post Exam SSA Group poster presentation

2 This SSA provides you with an opportunity -
to explore a particular area from the Year 1 curriculum in greater depth to develop your skills as reflective learners as independent learners as collaborative learners as enquiry-based learners To produce and present a conference style poster - something you will do at professional and research conferences.

4 Already done: Each of you should already have identified one topic from this year’s core curriculum that you would like to explore in greater depth: looking at clinical application / integration across disciplines Prepared a very brief proposal identifying The topic and where it was covered in the curriculum The particular area(s) you want to explore / question(s) you want to ask Why you think this is an interesting / important subject to study

6 Working in your M group - TODAY
(Academic staff will be sitting in) Listen to the proposal from each group member Select / amalgamate topics to identify 3 poster topics for your M group Each must be the right size so that you can research the topic from several points of view. Everybody in the group must be able to sign up to 1 topic. No poster group should be smaller than 4 or bigger than 8 students Note the 3 selected topics on the form provided Each student to sign up to 1 topic (no swapping later)

8 Working in your Poster Group
Discuss the subject and summarise what you “know” from the core curriculum Identify the areas / questions for further exploration Decide on the rationale for selecting the topic and the areas for further exploration Undertake the exploration, taking note of your major sources of information - use journals and reputable web sites Select the information you are going to present in the poster Design the poster and prepare the presentation

School of Medicine Each topic group will have to submit a PowerPoint file of their poster to PAGS (using a standardised format) during the afternoon of Monday 16th June. The School will pay the printing costs for these posters. PAGS is open from 14:00 to 17:00 and will not accept posters for printing after 17:00 on the 16th. Groups then have until Thursday 19th June to prepare to present and answer questions on their poster. On Thursday, each group of students will be required to present their poster, first to a group of their peers and then to two academic staff. Both peers and academic staff will provide feedback and score the poster against set criteria. All groups of students will therefore have two appointments on Thursday: one to present their own poster and the other to appraise a poster produced by another group. These appointments will be determined once groups have been formed. 14 Poster Presentation on 18th June in ATH
Your poster group will be given 3 x 20 minute slots between 11am and 3pm. You all need to be present at all three sessions to: Review a poster produced by the group to whom you are allocated, providing feedback to the group Present your poster to the peer group allocated as your reviewers Present your poster to 2 academic assessors The assessors will decide who - introduces the poster - speaks to any given aspect - answers a given question
