3. We need the help of THE HOLY SPIRIT
“I will give you a new heart and put a new Spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.” Ezekiel 36: NIV

4. We need the help of THE HOLY SPIRIT
“Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off – for all whom the Lord our God will call” Acts 2: NIV

5. We need the help of THE HOLY SPIRIT
Every Christian receives the gift of the Holy Spirit
When we repent of our sins and are baptized, God gives us the Holy Spirit to help us live the Christian life – Acts 2:36-41
There is no visible or miraculous sign when we receive the Holy Spirit, we believe we have received Him by faith Acts 2:38-39; 5:32

6. We need the help of THE HOLY SPIRIT
Not all Christians understand the work of the Holy Spirit
Many Christians think the Holy Spirit only works in miraculous ways
Some Christians know nothing about the Holy Spirit–Acts 19:1-7

7. 2 primary ways THE HOLY SPIRIT helps us
1. He helps us purge the sin from our lives
He convicts us of our guilt – John 16:8
He always provides us with a way out when we’re tempted – Corinthians 10:13

2. He sanctifies us in Christ Jesus
He gives us the desire to do God’s will – Philippians 2:12-13
And the ability to follow through – 2 Timothy 1:7; Ephesians 1:18

9. How THE HOLY SPIRIT works in our lives
“At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously, through Jesus Christ our Savior.” Titus 3:3-6 NIV

He renews our souls
He changes us completely from the inside out – Ezekiel 36:26-27
No one can actually see the Holy Spirit working in our lives, but they can definitely see the results! – John 3:5-7

He bears fruit in our lives
The fruit of the Spirit – Galatians 5:22-25
The fruit of good works – John 15:8

12. Making the WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT a Core Value
“So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.” Galatians 5: NIV

Must be attentive to His teaching – John 14:26
The Holy Spirit teaches us through the Word of God – Ephesians 6:17; Hebrews 4:12
All Scripture is God breathed and is useful – 2 Timothy 3:16-17

14. Making the WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT a Core Value
Must be submissive to His prompting
You can ignore, resist, or even reject the Holy Spirit – Acts 7:51; 1 Thessalonians 5:19-22
It’s your choice whether or not you will be led by the Spirit – Galatians 5:16-18; Romans 8:1-17
Be filled with the Spirit! – Ephesians 5:18; Acts 9:17
