2 Common Core Standards English/Language arts and mathematics final; work on science beginning Focus on learning expectations for students, not how students get there. Governors and Commissioners of Education from 48 states, two territories, and the District of Columbia support the project

3 Common Core Standards Criteria
Fewer, clearer, and higher. Aligned with college and work expectations Include rigorous content and application of knowledge through high-order skills Build upon strengths and lessons of current state standards Internationally benchmarked, so that all students are prepared to succeed in our global economy and society Base on evidence and research

4 Organization of Common core
Standards for individual grades k,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 Standards for grade clusters 9-10, 11-12 ELA include standards for literacy in History/Social Studies and Science in grades 6-12

5 Common Core Assessment
Smarter Balanced Consortium 31 states Computer adaptive testing Performance assessment Teacher involvement $160 million –assessment application was due June 24 – Award in September Tests scheduled to be operational in in Reading and Mathematics

6 It is the State Board of Ed
It is the State Board of Ed. decision whether or not to participate in the Common Core standards and assessment process. In the meantime, NeSA is the state testing process.

Revised standards- “college and career ready” Transition over time to analytic scoring Transition over time to online administration For Holistic scoring in Gr, 4,8 and 11th May have pilot for online administration?? Plan fully released after the State Board approval in September.

The old system is gone. New State accountability system-to be developed over time. NeSA performance (results of reading, math, science and writing) Graduation rate Growth of student performance Other factors to be determined Proposal of the State Board- September 2010
