Assessment Component Assessment Weight Pre-Course Placement Test : to measure students’ English language proficiency levels at the beginning of the program and to place students in homogenous English language classes. NA Speaking Test (1) 5% Speaking Test (2) Writing test Writing Portfolio Online L+S test 2.5% Online R+W test Mid (Computer-based) 35% Final Test (Computer-based) 40% Post-Course Placement Test: to measure the progress in the students’ English language proficiency levels. 5 Assessment – Academic Year 2016-2017 : Writing Portfolio – Rationale- Why?
The CTE Unit has been studying the idea of including a writing portfolio in the assessment of the writing skills due to the following reasons: Internal Aims: To encourage students to focus on developing the writing skill from the outset of the English course not just right before the writing assessments, To reduce students’ reliance on memorizing ready-made pieces of writing before the writing assessments, Students will take the responsibility for their own learning and progress; Will enable ELC teachers to monitor the development of their students' writing skill throughout the whole semester;

8 Assessments/ tracking progress
Students can view their own reports for the activities and tests they complete New achievements system that rewards students with badges as they progress through the online practice Teachers can track and monitor student progress too, at either an individual level, class level, or across multiple classes. Auto-graded online tests for every unit instantly measure student progress and save time on grading Scores are entered into the online gradebook, providing a quick and easy way to track class progress
