1 Nursery Parent Workshop
Wednesday 1ST March

2 Points raised last week
Questions Phonics Bringing work home Supporting your child emotionally

3 Questions Sometimes asking lots of questions has the opposite effect than we intend Alternatives to questions: “I can see you’re…” “I wonder how/why/if…” “Imagine if…” “So you think that…” “I’m thinking that…” “I feel…” “It might help if…” “Remember when…” “Sometimes I…”

4 Phonics in Nursery We will be holding a parent workshop on phonics and how we teach it on Thursday 23rd March The workshop will be at 2.30pm. Hand-outs will be put on the website Handwriting will also be included

5 Bringing work home All carpets have a box in which children and adults place work that children would like to take home Please check this box regularly in case your child forgets Our philosophy in Early Years is to focus on the “process not the product”

6 Supporting your child emotionally
30 – 50 months

7 This week in nursery The Gingerbread Man continues to be our key text.
Children will be conducting an experiment to see what will happen to the Gingerbread Man when he jumps into the water. What words can describe the Gingerbread Man before / after?

8 s This week in nursery Children are being introduced to the sound “s”
Spot the sound in words that are relevant to your child: e.g. people’s names, favourite animals, special place names, foods etc… Use examples where “s” is at the start of the word Why not eat a meal with only foods beginning with that sound?! Write it BIG! Make it fun and sensory

9 This week in nursery Songs and nursery rhymes are a really good tool for learning sounds! BBC Learning has a bank of nursery rhymes organised in alphabetical order. We also use the “Jolly Phonics” songs in class.
