KESA, King’s Lynn Norfolk 9D ILLUSTRATED WEEKLY NEWSPAPER We – rather you – are going to create a newspaper front page for OMAM But – there will be a challenge – you have to get as much as possible FINISHED in this lesson – anything you don’t finish will be an EXTRA homework  Every task will be timed!!!!!!! (-_-)

5 Your task today – Don’t write down, I’ll come back to this slide!
Come up with suitable Newspaper title What is your main story? Come up with a headline – must be alliterative or a pun Who’s POV will it be from? Who’s story are you telling Your 1st paragraph has to be a ‘sensational’ round up of story. Stick to FACTS, if you include an opinion it must be from a character in the story What is your 2nd sub story? Don’t forget if you interview somebody, you must use “quotes” you can have as many extra characters comment eg a close friend overheard…… Include as many details from the novel, beginning, middle and end!

6 But before we start we need to plan!
Name your newspaper!!! (1 min) in pairs/groups discuss names eg: What are all the places mentioned in OMAM?

7 Girl destined for stardom stars in own slasher movie!
Next we need a MAIN story and a HEADLINE What technique do newspapers use for their headlines? You have 3 mins !!! Loopy Len ends dreams over a looloo!

8 I want you to come up with a sub story
What sub stories can you think of in OMAM? Red dress in Weed Ranch hands wanted - Murray and Ready Migrants moving around California Susy’s or Clara’s place over run with pant-rabbits Farm for sale – land wanted! Kicked up hell in Soledad Curley wins fight Death of Aunt clara – suspicious Mouse stolen from kid by huge man with big paws Crooks family strung up for talking to a white woman

9 Round up - Your task today:
Come up with suitable Newspaper title What is your main story? Come up with a headline – must be alliterative or a pun Who’s POV will it be from? Who’s story are you telling Your 1st paragraph has to be a ‘sensational’ round up of story. Stick to FACTS, if you include an opinion it must be from a character in the story What is your 2nd sub story? Don’t forget if you interview somebody, you must use “quotes” you can have as many extra characters comment eg a close friend overheard…… Include as many details from the novel, but you must include beginning, middle and end!

14 Choose one image for your newspaper interview. Refer to it
Only write the facts – unless you quote somebody

15 You must use at least 2 of these quotes in your work – or pick 2 of your own- These are direct quotes from characters interviewed at the scene OR were overheard to have said….. “Maybe ever’body in the whole damn world is scared of each other.”  Slim “I can still tend the rabbits, George? I didn't mean no harm, George.”  Lennie “Guys like us got nothing to look ahead to” George I coulda made somethin' of myself.“ Curley’s wife
